Lost In Translation (10/2)

The big super markets throughout Taiwan and some parts of China is a chain from France called ‘CarreFour’. We went there to do a bit of shopping and underneath it are a bunch of small shops that sell seemingly random stuff, from tupperware to shoes.

We were in one of these small shops looking for a decent sized bread container. They mostly only had tupperware containers for that sort of thing, but I saw this one during our search:

Taiwan Chinese Taichung Lost In Translation Bad English Solt

Solt & Eggs ~ It will cook happily all together! Somehow I’m pretty sure there’s an equivalent phrase in Chinese but it just didn’t translate over properly. With a bit more thought put into it…that phrase could actually make sense if it was changed up a bit. Maybe.

My little disclaimer to go a long with these photos is that I have much respect for the many cultures in Asia. It is only that many Asian ideologies inherent in their languages translate poorly into English. Even with these translation errors, I am completely grateful that most signs are translated into English, it has been infinitely helpful to me.

I love these. Just found a funny ‘Engrish’ thing myself, in the apartment I’m renting in Sofia, Bulgaria at the moment.
