This festival is quite an ancient one, being celebrated for almost 3,000 years now. This celebration was actually early and is more of a "pre-mooncake festival". Throughout Taiwan they celebrate on different days depending on people's schedules mostly. I went to this one with a group of students and we really had a blast. We barbecued outside in little pits and were surrounded by Taiwanese people from that community. Some people had fireworks and there was a lot of karaoke going on. Hopefully we can go to another one of these before they're all over!

There were about 150 other people there. They sang karaoke and ate barbecue. Being the only foreigners there we received a bit of extra attention.

Here's a short video of some of the karaoke action. This lady was on stage the entire time that we were there. I think she was pretty much the host for the evening.

A few guys invited me over to meet their friends. I got the distinct feeling that they don't run into white guys very often. They were really nice, introduced me to the community leader's daughter.

Things started finishing up around 10:30pm and we took a few more pictures then headed back home. It was a really interesting night and a fun time enjoying Taiwanese culture. The fruit in the picture below was completely new to me. It is apparently called: Pomelo and the Taiwanese kid putting the outside of it on her head is just copying an advertisement around town.
