Moving Abroad: What To Pack
August 27, 2008 Posted by ChrisOne of the toughest parts of living abroad (in my case, study abroad) comes before you are even abroad. This is the stage when you have to pack everything you need (not want) to bring with you for your time in another country. At first it sounds like no problem, but after you spend some time packing you will start to notice that your luggage weighs a ton and you can barely carry your suitcases 50 meters. When you reach this point, you need to stop, take a deep breath & remove half of what you’ve packed. Here is my personal list for what I’ll be packing, for my trip abroad to Taiwan:

Pre-packing Layout

Before packing everything into your suitcases do ‘a pre-packing layout’ check off with your list of items in hand to make sure you have everything you plan on bringing. I put everything on my bed, on the floor works too. Putting everything on the bed makes things easier as your stuff is waste level and you do not have to bend over as much while organizing your things. After you know you have everything that you need to bring. The packing can begin.

That’s way too much clothes.
My bag was 14 kilograms. That’s excluding electronic equipment though, which was my carry-on luggage.
14 kilograms? Wow! I’ll agree I could have packed much less, but having the extra clothes has been very nice and since I managed to fit it all into a medium sized suitcase, it wasn’t so bad.
Yup. Can understand.
I’m not here for business, so it might be different if I was. I’d have packed more clothes.
But I figured I’d just buy some clothes over here. Cheaper in Turkey than in Holland anyway (although not as much as I expected).
You should also make a photocopy of your ID card or bank card/credit card.
